A person, subsequently taken into custody for reportedly striking authorities with a food item, interacts with immigration and FBI agents.

A federal customs official has stated under oath he could detect through his ballistic vest the impact of a sandwich hurled at him by a DC demonstrator, who has faced court proceedings for criminal charge.

Customs and Border Patrol agent the officer testified to the legal jury the snack "shattered all over him" and he "detected the vegetables and condiment" on his work clothing.

Neither side contests that the accused, in his thirties, did in fact throw vulgar language and a deli-style sandwich at law enforcement assigned by the administration to secure the federal district in the summer month.

The occurrence was captured on recording and went viral, making Mr Dunn a representation of dissent in the capital to Trump.

Federal attorneys at first tried to achieve felony charges against Mr Dunn, but a judicial committee chose not to prosecute him.

The administration's assignment of military personnel to the capital this warmer months caused outrage from some of the DC citizens, who viewed it as a politicisation of the armed forces.

Based on court papers, Mr Dunn approached a police contingent at about 23:00 on 10 August, referring to them "fascists" and yelling: "Why are you present? Your presence is unwanted in my city!"

The trial witnessed a demonstration from the agent on the trial day as he gave evidence against the accused.

"I detected it through my ballistic vest," he testified of the sandwich's impact, mentioning that an onion string dangled from his official equipment and mustard discolored his shirt.

The accused's legal counsel, the defense attorney, stated in her initial argument that hurling the sandwich was a "harmless gesture that did not, could not, result in harm".

But government attorney the state's representative argued Mr Dunn must be held accountable.

"No matter who you are, you cannot simply launching items at people because you're upset," the attorney said.

Following the claimed attack became public, the defendant was dismissed from his position as a paralegal in the government law department.
