The Gaming Giant Brings Onboard Apex Legends Producer to Revitalize Challenged Hero Shooter Project Ethos
2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the development team at 31st Union, which is currently developing the upcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Management Transition Follows Poor Response
The new appointee takes on the leadership position at 31st Union following the dismissal of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's underwhelming early showing last autumn.
Recently, 2K president a key figure updated staff about this decision through an official communication, which stressed that playtesting had shown the necessity for a more defined vision.
The president expressed that the developers is now overhauling Project Ethos with a revised vision, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.
Trend of Key Recruitment
The news mirrors a comparable move taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the complete message from Ismailer's memo:
Hello Everyone—
I know you all just completed your meeting - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Last time I shared you all a note, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and talented developers we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to persist.”
Given your hard work and versatility, especially over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.
The player input from last fall’s the game demo was revealing. It confirmed the promise of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had refinements needed. It uncovered the need for a more distinct vision.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You embraced the feedback to consideration and reimagined Project ETHOS with a refreshed vision - one that’s positioned to deliver on its ambition to our players.
The trust in this project strengthens every day. To boost the outstanding development you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome Ben Brinkman as the new Director of 31st Union. After some time of conversations, he starts with us on Monday, October 20.
Ben’s guidance and experience in the competitive gaming field is vast, having devoted the recent years creating and leading some of the most recognizable series in gaming, such as the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
Please join me in welcoming Ben next week. We are all looking forward to persist observing the development of Project ETHOS in the time to come.
The President
Experience of the New Head
The appointee presently serves in the position of senior developer and head of production at the renowned studio for their flagship title. Brinkman earlier was employed at Treyarch and Activision in various production roles on the iconic franchise games, and, earlier in his career, had assignments at 2K and Electronic Arts.
Game Details and Vision
Project Ethos was unveiled in last year in conjunction with a early access event. At the time, the developers described the title as a "no-cost, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an exciting advancement on the genre."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in live gameplay to match your preferred approach," the description reads. "Face the competition with fresh skills, challenges, and challenges that change every round. Will you leave securely with your valuable rewards? Alternatively take a risk, gamble everything, and hope your group can achieve the highest spot? The choice is up to you."
Project Ethos has not yet received an official release date or supported systems, but players can expect more updates as creation advances.
